Branch Represented on Panel Discussion at NYS Convention

This year’s New York State AAUW convention was held at the Glen Cove Mansion April 15-17, 2011.  This lovely manor house from the era of “The Great Gatsby” was the setting for a weekend of informative and inspirational speakers. 

On Sunday, April 17, Doris McLallen was part of a panel of presenters for “NYS/AAUW International Project:  My Sister’s Keeper”….”Empowering Women Through Global Dialogues: Images, Words, and Impressions from Israel and Cuba”.  Doris McLallen traveled to Israel with AAUW Delegation to Israel in October, 2010.  She is AAUW-NYS College/University Director.

Barbara Gaston, who was part of a highly selective process from a program funded by USAID and was one of three Haitian students that Rockland County AAUW mentored during her two years in New York.  Barbara spoke about applying for an opportunity of a lifetime, studying in a foreign country, the mentor relationship with AAUW, re-entry to your homeland and the crisis in Haiti.

Melissa Guardaro was a member of the AAUW Delegation to Cuba in November, 2010.  She is AAUW-NYS International Affairs Director, project leader for “My Sister’s Keeper”, and Co-President of the Rockland County Branch.
