Branch Bonds

Leaders of both the St. Lawrence County AAUW and the Jefferson County AAUW gathered together at the St. Lawrence County AAUW Annual meeting. It was held in June at SUNY Potsdam’s Thatcher Hall.  Melissa Guadaro spoke to the gathering about her special New York State AAUW project, “My Sister’s Keeper”.  Guadaro launched the project in 2010 with former state board member, Joan Monk.  The project educates AAUW members and others about the plight of women both internationally and domestically, encouraging local action to help our global “Sisters.”  The program starts with a book discussion of Half the Sky by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn and provides for a myriad of avenues to help women with the problems of education, violence against women, maternal health, economic empowerment and women’s/HUMAN rights.  Guadaro is Co-President of the Rockland County Branch and AAUW-NYS International Chair.
