AAUW Keeps Close Eye on PBS 5- Part Series on Women, War, and Peace

Women,War and Peace is a five part series currently airing on PBS. (Check your local listings). There has been a lot of press recently about rape as a weapon of war, putting women in the middle of the conflict. This series highlights women that, in spite of dire circumstances, prove to be survivors, testifiers and agents of peace.  Full episodes are available the day after airing.  If you miss the program on air, you can watch it here: http://www.thirteen.org/wwp/full-episodes

Also check out Gloria Blackwell’s blog on this series and the recent Noble Peace Prize winners, Liberian President Sirleaf, Yemini activist Tawakkul Karman and Liberian peace activist Leymah Gbowee. “Each won the Nobel Peace Prize “for their nonviolent struggle for the safety of women and for women’s rights to full participation in peace-building work.” Each woman has made profound efforts to promote peace and women’s rights in their countries. It was a tremendous recognition of the strength and perseverance of women in transforming their countries.” http://blog-aauw.org/2011/10/20/we-are-tired-of-being-raped/
