On October 6, Jefferson County Branch continued its long tradition of voter education through presenting local candidates to the public. This year’s event, with its focus on county and city candidates, shined a spotlight on some of our friends and neighbors, whom we thank for their willingness to stand for office.
Jefferson Branch AAUW teamed up with Sunrise Rotary of Watertown to host a breakfast that featured nine candidates for Jefferson County legislator, City Judge and City of Watertown Mayor.
Jefferson County Legislative District 11: Robert D. Ferris and Ronald H. Cole;
Jefferson County Legislative District 12: Carl J. Disalvatore and Carolyn D. Fitzpatrick; Watertown City Judge: Keith B. Coughlin and Eugene R. Renzi; City of Watertown, Mayor: Jeffrey E. Graham and Jeffrey M Smith. *A statement will be read on behalf of Mr. Renzi, who cannot attend in person.
The invited candidates each spoke on his or her experience and motivation, as well as the challenges that they see that need to be tackled. Both before and after the event, the candidates and the public used the opportunity to engage in informal conversations.
Karen Carr welcomed everyone to the event. Sharon Wuerschmidt moderated the candidates’ presentations. Lynn Schwabenthal managed the registration at the door.
