Dexter Woman Recipient of Higher Education Scholarship

Rachael N. Chubb, Dexter, has been awarded the 2011 Jefferson County Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) Higher Education Scholarship. The award is given every year to a female student who has demonstrated outstanding leadership and community involvement. Ms. Chubb wrote to the committee of her inspiration found during a dark time in her life. Here is an excerpt of the story written about her niece Jassmin Eva Miles who died due to complications of premature birth. “Inspiration comes in various forms and helps those achieve the dreams they dream of.  My inspiration laid in the tiny palms of an infant who held great power in impacting our world in ways she will never know.  The irony of my story is that Jazzmin was the light in one of the darkest moments of my life.  She really was a big miracle in a little body and I will forever remember her for that,” wrote Ms. Chubb.

Margaret C. Williams, chairperson of the scholarship committee presented Chubb with a check for $500.00 at a recent AAUW event. Chubb holds a Liberal Arts Associate’s degree from Jefferson Community College; and a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from SUNY Potsdam. She is an active member of the AAUW. Chubb is pursuing a Master’s degree in Social Work at Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY.
