Sounds of the Northway to Perform at NYS AAUW Convention, April 2013

Sounds of the Northway will perform at the NYS AAUW Convention on April 28, 2013 at the High Peaks Resort in Lake Placid, NY.  The group sings:

v  Folk songs from the traditional to the contemporary.

v  Songs about the environment, natural resources, and the world around us.

v  Contemporary Jewish, folk, and liturgical music.

v  Historical and Popular Songs dear to Mothers, Daughters, Sisters, and Wives.

v  Songs about love and life; about laughter and living.

Sounds of the Northway has been performing for over 15 years for many kinds of audiences including Plattsburgh State University, Schroon Lake Boathouse, Port Henry, Palmer Street Coffeehouse, Lake Placid Synagogue, Adirondack Water fest, and Plattsburgh Mayor’s Cup.  Community benefits include CVPH Ladies Night Out, Essex Initiatives, Burlington and Plattsburgh Cancer Survivor’s Celebrations, Women’s Equality Day, Women’s History Month, Stop Domestic Violence, and Take Back the Night.

While the composition of the ensemble has changed over its 15-year history, two stalwarts remain as the centerpiece of the group:  Ann Hope Ruzow Holland, Ph.D.  playing guitar, piano, and singing– and Cathie Davenport playing flute and singing.

Other singers and musicians join Sounds of the Northway from time to time for special performances or for studio recording.  Sounds of the Northway was recently featured on National Public Radio for its women’s history CD collection.

Sounds of the Northway has recorded two CD’s.  Herstory: Heroes Turning the World Right Side Up is a historical anthology of 23 songs from many musical genres.  Water, Women and Song, features 17 distinctive traditional, contemporary, and liturgical songs that highlight the unique style and range of the group.  Both CD’s were recorded and mastered at the first-rate Charles Eller Studios in Charlotte, Vermont.
