Human Trafficking Public Awareness Through Local Discussions

Did you know that an estimated 2.5 million people are focused into human trafficking at any given time worldwide? And that an estimated 1.2 million are children? Did you know that human trafficking is happening now in Jefferson County? We are collaborating with area organizations to build awareness within our membership and the community on this growing problem in Jefferson County. Human trafficking is our focus in January.

Flower Memorial Library in Watertown, NY is showing the movie “Not My Life” on January 8th at 5:30 PM. A discussion will follow the movie.

WPBS is airing specific programming in January, including a special “Public Eye” panel discussion on the topic of human trafficking. January 15th at 6:00 PM AAUW members are invited to watch the taping and stay for a discussion afterwards with the panelists. This taped panel discussion will air January 19th at 10:00 PM and again on January 25th at 8:00 AM.

The Sisters of Social Justice are hosting a prayer to end human trafficking followed by a presentation given by David Buggs, SUNY Potsdam Professor in International Criminal Justice on January 25th beginning at 1:30 PM and ending at 3:30 PM. Titled “Modern Day Slavery: Different Date but Same Reality” it is free to attend. Please call 315-782-3460 if plan to attend.
